- Prior to learning about other forms of remote sensing, let’s start with the most basic form: aerial photography.
- Second, aerial photography that is all taken directly from above (nadir).
- Using images of the same place from different times, we can analyze the changes over time.
- Satellite images can be incredibly artistic and even quite entertaining.
- Remotely sensed images can come in all types of resolutions and scales.
Further Assignments: comment of 4 additional postings about remote sensing.

The article about the Hubble telescope finding galaxies using the different spectrums is visually awesome. it is also suprising to realize how small Earth actually is compared to the rest of the universe.

I’ve never heard of remote sensing before so it was interesting to learn about it. Seeing artistic satellite images and different aerial photography shots was very cool. I really enjoyed the images that compared the area from ten or so years before to present day.

I had never had an in-depth lecture on Remote Sensing, all I had done before was view the images and guess as to what they were trying to portray. It is interesting to see what they actually mean, how they are formed, and how they are captured. I have a particular interest in aerial photography, as I plan to accompany Dr. Bonin on an aerial photography trip after graduation. It is great to know how the images I may take can be used as practical maps with accompanying data

I’ve seen remote sensing before but I’ve never really had it put into perspective. In other words, I have seen it before but I never really knew what it was. My favorite form of remote sensing is definitely aerial photography. For me, it is the easiest to understand and it is really interesting to see different parts of the world as art.

These are endlessly fascinating. But they are scary in our relentless growth in the name of progress, so fast, so pervasive. Plus everyone increasingly living in these mega cities, mostly by necessity, leading to more pollution, climate change etc.

These images are really cool the different aerial pictures and the images that have changed over time with the bar that you can slide back and forth show how drastic changes that have been made.

Images of earth from above:
Aerial photography and remote sensing gives a better visual to what we can cannot see by just walking through somewhere. For example the rows of houses near the London 2012 Olympic Park in England, the way the houses are organized wouldn’t be able to be seen just walking through the street the aerial photograph gives a complete different outlook.
Satellite Images of Urban Sprawl:
It is amazing to have such in detailed images of the changes taking place over the years.
Remote Sensing and Land Cover Change:
Remote sensing images are so unique in the way they demonstrate the alterations that have been made to the various areas of land.
Apple Apologizes for its Maps Problems:
I hadn’t updated my Iphone yet because someone had told me they were having troubles using the Maps application n the phone after the update. They told me the app just doesn’t work the same and as well as it did before the update. This just made me think we rely so much on the apps on our phone for accuracy when in reality sometimes they fail. Just proves the point more and more that just because it is a published app or map doesn’t mean the accuracy on it is correct.
Earth from above:
This is a wonderful view of the earth from above because it provides such a accurate present day visual. Without a aerial photograph we miss to see many wonderful visuals on the world around us.
The Real World at Night & Earths City lights:
These images demonstrate fro students population in various parts of the world. Although some spots of the world may not be illuminated it does not mean they are highly populated, it may just mean the resources aren’t provided, therefore it also demonstrates a bit of where poverty may be.

I could look at those images of “Earth from Above” all day. Each picture is unique in their own artistic presentation, but similar in the way that they each display land patterns, geometric shapes, and pathways. And like the other students in the class, I too have not had a lesson before on Remote Sensing. Although the process of using satellites for Remote Sensing is a complex science, it is such a useful tool for organizing important and impactful data.
